The Friends of Drakelow Tunnels
Dutch Visitors Fly In For Tunnel Tour

On Saturday 10th May 2008 the Friends of Drakelow Tunnels hosted an unusual tour. Dutch businessman Ries Oostlander and friends arrived in 5 helicopters for a tour of the world war 2 underground factory. They landed in a field above the tunnels and were taken for a tour of the underground complex as part of a weekend visit to the U.K. Ries had met Paul Stokes of the Friends of Drakelow Tunnels several years earlier when his helicopter had been forced to land above the tunnels due to bad weather. He was so impressed with an impromptu tour that he vowed to return with friends at a later date. This must be the most unusual tour we ran. It was a spectacular sight when they all arrived and departed.
